Discovering the work of Irish composer Ina Boyle
We are very excited to be working on a little known quartet by the late Irish composer Ina Boyle. This piece, her only string quartet, was performed only once in her lifetime so it is a great honour to be involved in these concerts sharing her music with Irish audiences on the 4th, 5th and 6th of February.
I was lucky to get a seat just before the “FULL HOUSE” signs went up at The Hugh Lane Gallery! Wow, what a concert. The Callino Quartet were superb; the second movement was particularly impressive. It was a melancholy piece, conjuring up eloquent images of the lonely house in Eniskerry with it’s expensive but silent antiques. The Quartet played with precision and passion, and delivered a magnificent sound: sweet, pure and round tones, which was enhanced by the great acoustic of the venue. I look forward to hearing more of Ina Boyle’s music, and the Callino Quartet.
Was at your performance this morning in the Hugh Lane Gallery, and much impressed by the Ina Boyle work.
Though a fairly short piece, it was high quality indeed.
Thank You

I have only to-day discovered this website. Otherwise I would have taken the opportunity much sooner to tell you that I was genuinely moved by the quartet’s performance of the Ina Boyle. One is prepared, when a forgotten Irish piece is resurrected, to find it has curiosity value and is worth hearing at least once. But this work I wanted to hear again -and again! We must be grateful to the Callinos that they gave us the chance to hear it not just as a gesture to a sad, gifted but neglected lady, but played without a trace of attitude; played beautifully and with professional directness and integrity. I was so pleased after the concert to hear from Dr. Ita Beausang that you have recorded the piece, and I look forward to hearing that soon -as I do to hearing your future recitals! Congratulations and thanks.
Hi Mac et al.
Things are moving on Inaa’s front- I fly over for day on saturday for Symphonic Symposium at DIT and Ita Beaausangs Paper on her symphonies which conincides with an exhibition on Ina at
Trinity. Her ‘orchestral piece Wild Geese’ will be performed at special EU Concert at St John’s Smiths square in early May. Irish Heritage are including work by Ina in a future concert , and two of her Motets will be sung at St Paul’s Cathedral later this year . Claire Cunningham has set up a website to ecord all performances
