Dear Callinos,
I’ve had a long couple of weeks of auditions and came back tonight exhausted and put on your CD. Really wonderful, heart-warming playing and what a rich programme! As you may remember from Academy days (Sarahs), I’m a stickler for Cd ‘products’ that reveal a strong artistic identity in every aspect of the process and this delivers something distinctive and hugely enjoyable which I shall return to again..and again.

Out of an evening to hear the Quartet concert, including Gerald Barry at his most self-indulgent ever, I hope – hm.
So back home with the antidote, Callino CD of Haydn, Janacek and Schubert. Very impressive production, including exemplary notes. The stand-out performance has been the Schubert A minor. Previously it seemed a lightweight compared to the D minor and G major, but the grave beauty of this performance makes the A minor incomparable. Thank you.
It is rare for a Quartet to catch the essence of three such different composers, but you have done so with sensitive and nuanced performances that really are second to none. This is a CD we shall treasure, and come back to with renewed delight.
